I have a 1986 Bronco II with a 2.9L. Recently the vehicle wouldn't start so we did the obvious and changed out the battery. Next was the ignition. Now the car starts like a champ but it sounds like the starter wont disengage. Worse yet when we shut off the car with the key it continues to cycle the starter. Now the only way to shut it off is by disconnecting the battery. Do you think the ignition is bad again?

Sounds like the starter solenoid might have gone haywire on you. Easy as pie to change, and fairly cheap.

the starter is working fine. It cranks over when we turn the key. the problem is that it seems as though it is always on though

Definitely sounds like the solenoid. They're around $25.00 and extremely easy to swap out.

The solenoid is a switch that puts power down to the starter and if that switch is constantly on, there will be constant power to the starter, making it run constantly.
