Help picking a shock

unfortuinatly I am limited to the shock I can use by my suppliers and my budget the two shocks I am looking at are Pro-comp p/n 4206 and Rancho 19036 probably not the best options but its not a race truck and I am limited by the suppliers that the store I work at use. What is the better shock to use for the front of my truck. Thankyou for your input.

hmm those ranchos look strong, never seen a 9000 with a reservior..if im not mistaken the ranchos have a much thicker shaft, if thats the case i would get those because i seem to bend/snap procomp shafts like toothpicks
 
Pick the one that has the least amount of play in it. In other words hold onto the body of the shock and wiggle the shaft.........WOW that sounds really bad huh? lmao

LMAO, maybe i'll get the girlfriend to help. Dave you always have the most logical advice, the only problem is I dont have these shocks in stock ( would be a special order) to test like that. I am a direct dealer for pro comp and can get a really good price but the rancho's are not far off and I like the feature of the ranchos where you can change the settings with a wireless remote, and the pro comps are not adjustable. Seeing how this is going to be a on/of road truck I would like to be able to adjust the ride, thanks for the help guys.

Id do the ranchos. Honestly the "adjustable" settings on shocks wont really do much for you. you will probably barely even feel a difference between the highest level and lowest level.

You could always go "old skool" and run two to three mono tube shocks per side :D lol.
 
can you rebuild ethier of those shocks? If you can rebuild one over the other thats what way I would go.

the rancho's really dont look like it, look like they are the twin tube type.

the procomp's look like they are mono tube.thats what I would prefer.

dont get to caught up in the "knob" all it dose is close off the free bleds.

When I first got my truck, it had rancho 9000's all the way around with the skyjacker lift. The knobs did not change anything are far as valving went,cause with bigger bumps it did not matter if they were on 1 or 9.

but small stuff, like litle wash board, or how a concrete road is layed in section's you could feel the diffrence. between 1 and 9.....9 would make the truck chatter on the crete roads, chop chop chop chop feeling,during the first inch, and 1 would make the the shocks feel as they were dead for the first inch. Found 3 to be the happy medium all the way around...
but once you hit a little dip they felt the same from 1-9.

Yes sir, that use to be the only way to go twenty years ago and older. You had your mono tube shocks that could be some what valved and many of them on each side to keep them all from over heating. I remember my dads friend tellin me about tuning the shocks on an old old class 10 car (at that time they were not called that, cant remember what they were called) and he would have to valve three shocks per side. He said sometimes he would grab each shock to see the temp of each one and the first two would be a little warm and the last one scortching hott! Im so glad we have moved away from those type shocks
 
i still use bilstiens and there made by germans you know the germans always make good stuff

your not gonna get a shock with 14" or more travel and a remote Reservoir 129 bucks, I can get bilstein but at $60 a shock more than the other two and for a shock that will be swaped out for coilovers well before they are wore out, the money can be better used elsewhere. thats my opinion anyway. The bilstein optin that I have is AK7114SB 7100 series 14"travel short body w/ Reservoir.

if your chosing from ranchos and pro comp i would say pro comp ranchos air rides ive had some trouble with them not working right or breaking prematurely my buddy's jeep has gone threw 2 sets of those in about 8 months and he mainly does driving around town
