Help - Parasitic Draw - Instrument Cluster

Thanks. I wanted to pull all the bundles and check based on your prior feedback. I tried puling on the white tabs and they wouldn't budge. I don't want to break them. I don't know what that would do. Any suggestions?

Its just a lever to push/lift connector away from the SJB so shouldn't break, its pushing against SJB base, not any wiring
Each pin/slot has just a little resistance to pull them apart, but when there are 20+ the resistance adds up, lol

I would disconnect a battery terminal when pulling these out if you haven't already

LOL. OK. Thanks. If I ever meet the guy who designed that fuse panel, I'm going to make him check all the fuses and hope he sees the error of his way :)

For anybody watching this, this is on hold until after the holidays. I'll disconnect the battery cable until then. I need the truck for the holidays and I need reliable over technically correct for the time being (given I remember the cable). Thanks to the folks who could help out.

Yes, the 2 external relays(15 and 25) are often not used on all SJBs

I would pull the large wire connectors on the SJB and look for corrosion, common issue on these units
Stuff like this: https://i0.wp.com/sparkys-answers.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/DSC09930.jpg

And what that does is cause current flow from an active Key off circuit to be a higher draw, corrosion is causing higher resistance so more current is needed
Cluster should have a draw key off but as you suspect not that high
I don't know if the cluster has a "sleep" mode, I wouldn't know why it would, the SJB does because it has the battery saver relay
One quick question regarding this? If I come across this situation, do you have a recommended approach for removing the corrosion (assuming it can be removed)?

Yes, contact/electronics cleaner works and Q-tips

Its basically just isopropyl alcohol which you can get in a bottle, cheaper, the higher the % the better as it leaves no residue behind
Spray can can be easier to use but have the windows rolled down, lol

This is what MAF cleaner is as well, just a low residue cleaner

If you need a little abrasive action, an ink pen eraser works well. Many terminals are silver coated to try to prevent corrosion. You don't want to remove that. However, if you have heavy corrosion, you are probably past that point.

@RonD, @ericbphoto thanks. I actually have MAF cleaner from another effort. I'm afraid of breaking the plastic tabs (just my luck) and why I'm waiting until after the holidays.

However, tell me: What if I leave the windows rolled up? Sounds like fun?

Yes, 99% isopropyl alcohol and ether are loads of fun in an enclosed space, especially if you light up a joint after a few minutes, no need to open a door or roll down the windows after that, that will all be taken care of for you :)

The punch line is "light up" but it could have been a cigarette. I like your style...:icon_thumby:

Have to be pretty dumb to light up a cigarette after going to all the effort to fill the space with mind numbing hydrocarbons, grabbing and lighting a joint however fits that fun loving experience like a glove :)

Yes Sir...yes it does :)

Well, i can still remember the first time i tried a cigerette...it was definitely a buzz. Its only after getting hooked that it doesnt give the same feelings. By the way, i quit smoking cigarettes about 13 years ago after smoking for about 35 years. Had to quit drinking in order to do it tho...

You might have "picked the wrong week to quit" smoking\drinking\doping\sniffing!

I guess the one thing that I lose sleep over lately is: 'what if I pull those tabs and find no corrosion'. That's where it really hits the fan.
