Well I woke up this morning got ready for work went to leave and My brake lights are not working on my truck. Checked all the fuses all good So im not sure which one it is or if there is a relay switch for it. ITs a 1994 Ranger with a 4.0 manual 4x4. THey were working the other day so im not sure. I did get stuck yesterday And got high centered so im not sure if that could have caused something or not. Where do the wires run under the truck to the rear tail lights? I work about an hour away and Cannot get to work today because of this as I am not willing to get pulled over for it. Any advise would be appreciated. I tryed to look up a diagram of the fuse box and cant seem to find any either.

Do your taillights and rear turn signals still work? If so, it's probably the switch on the brake pedal.

Yes the tail lights still light up and the turn signals Do work. So you think its the switch on the brake pedal it self? ALright I will have to go out and take a look, its still early and dark up here (Alaska) So i guess i better grab the flash light.

Just tell the cop you didnt know they were not working although I havent used that excuse for not going to work yet thanx. did you try wiggleing the brake switch connector on the pedal lever. If you have the backup lights and running lights I dont imagine it would be in the harness and do your blinkers still work

Well I think I found my problum, crawled up under the dash, found the switch and one of the wires is pulled out of the plug :( Not sure If I can fix it or if Im going to have to find another one from a junk yard and cut it a few inches down and splice it into my old wiring and plug it back into my brake switch.

for a temp fix can you strip the wire back and stick it in the connector side of the connector and push it on the switch

then tape it so you dont have a live wire possibly floppin around and have a short

Got It fixed :D thanks for all your help....turned out to be the plug for the switch, got a new used one out of a junk yard and spliced it in.....all works now :D

he he I have been a member for years, I was actually part of the old forum before they re did the site but Havnt had a ranger for a while so i kinda ventured off.....So as soon as I bought another Ranger I started lurking again :D

The truck I got has some high miles on it but for the most part is in good shape except the drivers door which has a big dent and the side mirrior was ripped off....so untill I can buy another door I put a diffrent side mirior on it temp so I dont get pulled over for it....hoping here in a few weeks to pick up a new door with mirrior. So far I love the lil truck has ALOT more power than my old 84 did lol it only had a 2.0L in it. Has alot more power than my wifes 94 Explorer does too but im sure its due to the fact its lighter and has a 5 speed where is the wifs X is a auto. Any ways its nice to be back on TRS.

cool glad it was that simple and thanx I cant wait to tell my boss I can`t make it to work cause my brake lights dont work I am sure that will be a first. He He

well its an hour and a half drive into Anchorage, and the cops are pricks when it comes to stuff like that.......out by where I live at It wouldnt have been an issue but in town they will harrass you over stupid crap like that, and I did make it to work btw.

I was just kidding I always come up with different excuses just to make him worry if I am going to show up I am pretty sure he has not heard that one yet he will tell me to take a bus or something brake lights are very important and would not drive myself if I knew they were not working.

I understand, wasnt sure where you were coming from :D I did make it, I was late but I did make it. Sounds like you have a pretty cool boss if you harrass him like that and he can take it well lol.

Yea we flip each other shit all the time he would know something was wrong if I didnt. Thats a long commute I used to drive from Lynnwood to Seattle A normal 25 min commute would be between 1-2 hrs rush hour that was a biotch.
