Help Needed

Hello all. I am shopping for a second vehicle and have been wanting a Ranger. My research shows that the 4.0 didn't come in Rangers until 1990. I will be looking at this truck in the next few days and will have a better idea but without the VIN does anyone know of how I could tell if it is a swap? Did the 4.0 swap easily into 87s? Any help is much appreciated.

If it's actually a 4.0 it is a swap for sure, if it is in fact a 2.9L it will say so on the top of the upper intake manifold, likewise for the 4.0L... Looks pretty clean
