I need some help replacing the shoes on my 2004 Ranger. I cant slide the drum off to start with. I tried adjusting the knob, but using a screw driver to spin it didnt work too well. It also seemed pretty rusted so I couldnt turn it at all. I guess I'll go pick up a Haynes manual tomorrow. But I was hoping for some help from the Ranger guys first. So can someone tell me how to replace the shoes?

Thanks

The star adjuster has a lever that needs to be lifted to move the wheel. Don’t hit the drum around the circumference as you might make a flat spot but you probably need new ones or have them machined. Try a screwdriver to move the drum and look at the studs first to see if there is a holding clip.

Yeah I already took those clips off the studs. Wheres the lever that I need to move? That sounds like my problem.

Does the drum move at all or is it stuck on the axle? If it's stuck then you need to free it. Take a screwdriver and probe in the back plate slot, the adjuster lever is resting on the star wheel you need to lift the lever and with a second driver move the star wheel.

ok..this is what u do.take a hammer and hit inbteween the studs-put the lug nuts on the studs though so u dont screw up the threads if u hit it by accident make sure u hit it pretty hard and the rust will break free

Its not the rust thats actually holding the drum on. I thought it was rust stoping the adjuster from moving, but apparently its some sort of lever thats stopping it from moving.

ok then.u will have to adjust the star wheel adjuster-there is a lever that goes against the wheel letting u only turn the wheel one way.u have to take one screwdriver and hold it up while u adjustthe star wheel

sorry dindt see that wildside posted the same tthing

take a 3# hammer and hit the end the axel tube, I had to do this to my 00 to get the drum off.
