Greetings,

Somehow the valve stem/core on my high-side A/C port got totally messed up and two different mechanics have told me I need to replace that whole section of A/C hose. I was hoping to just replace the area circled in red (below), but I guess you need to replace the whole assembly (MOTORCRAFT Part F57Z19D850A / YF2207, I think...).

EDIT: It looks like the above part is for the 2.3L Ranger only. I have a 3.0L XL Extended Cab 4X4. From the FordParts online catalog, it looks like I need the YF-2208 (LINK) or YF-2317 (LINK) but I can't seem to find either anywhere online. Is that right? Are these the same part? Where to order? I looked on Rock Auto, JC Whitney, others but couldn't find it. If I try to order from FordParts.com it says "Due to low demand, Ford Motor Company is no longer manufacturing the following part(s) you selected" - great...any ideas where to order?

Having never worked on A/C hose, is there anything special I should know before I order this thing and get to work? The system is empty, so I will also be installing a new accumulator as well. I have a manifold gauge set and a vacuum, so I can recharge when I'm done.

Do I need special tools to connect the A/C lines? I've done a lot of work on this truck, but always bolt-on, bolt-off stuff like shocks, tie rods, brakes, power steering box, etc.

Thanks very much,
Aaron

Look up your part.

You will need to replace the drier along with the hose at least. Once the system is open to the atmosphere the dries MUST be replaced.

The tool is the same type used on the fuel lines and can be found at any auto parts store. They come in a set and the AC lines use the larger size of course.

Cool, thanks. I've worked on fuel lines so it should be no issue there. I just wish I could find this part for sale somewhere. Maybe I'll hot up some online junkyard sites...?? Never had an issue finding a part somewhere, at least from Ford directly...

Have you checked LMC Truck?

Thanks for the heads up on LMC truck - it's a little unclear if they have the part i need, but I'd never used them before so even if not it's a great resource to know about. I'll give them a call this afternoon and see...

napa would have the lines too. you don't need anything special to put the new line on, but you need to run a vacuum on the system to get rid of any moisture in there. harbor freight sells one for $15 if you have a big enough compressor to run it.... its a huge air hog.
