did you have a 3.0L before and plug it into the 3.0L computer since this is in the 3.0L forum.......cause....... that computer will not work with a 4.0L
An automatic trans PCM will limit rpm to 3000 in Neutral and Park.
Doesn't explain the backfiring though. Need more info on your swap.
