I was given a 1987 ford ranger 2.3l soho gas with the tk5 5spd manual. I am Frankensteining this truck back together. It has about 160,xxx on the dash. When I Rev the engine it tries to stall if I don't press down on the gas fast or hard enough. I also have a random brown plug hanging from under the dash that I have no clue where it attaches to. Any and all help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Welcome to the forum :)

Your '87 Ranger 2.3l should be EFI(electronic fuel injection), so will have a computer that reads sensors on the engine to set fuel mix.
And an electronic Spark system, Fords TFI system, with distributor and TFI module.

I assume the engine idles fine and warms up fine, and drives fine around town and at highway speeds, but just doesn't accelerate very well.

A few things can cause that, you will need a Volt/ohm meter, to test voltages and ohms on sensors and controllers.

Random Brown wire isn't much to go on.
Ranger wiring harness's will have all option wiring in place, i.e. fog lights, if truck doesn't have fog lights the wire will still be there, just no switch or lights.

If everything in the cab is working then it could just be an "option" wire.

This is the thing I am trying to put it back where it belongs and not hanging in front of the pedals.

Is it a plunger type switch?

Can you push in the pin?

Not a clutch switch or brake light switch.
Maybe emergency brake switch????

Some one will know, it ain't me :)

Figured out what the connector was for it is for the horn.
