I have a '86 Ranger and I need to replace the rusty bracket in the pic. I thought it was called the front lower shock mount buy I can't find it online or at the store. One bolt holdes the shock on and the other two hold the bushing for the sway bar. What is it called/where can I get it ? Also what years would have this same part? None of the junkyards around me have unrusty parts this old .

It would have to be from the 83-88 range, those were the only ones with that style bar. I'm afraid that you are probably going to have to find one from a junkyard, but unfortunately I can't help you with that search.

If all else fails you could get some replacement hardware and do without the plate.

Is it even safe without it? What gauge do you think it's supposed to be? I guess I can just make one

I replaced mine with a "Help" brand shock stud from an auto parts place. It's on my race truck and I haven't noticed any problems. There isn't any brace any more on mine.

Ok good, thatakes me feel comfortable making my own

Look at the Explorers (91 -94). Its just another bracket to help hold the shock. If I remember right, the 91 that I got the D35 out of had them. (or maybe the opposite The early years had them and the later years didnt).

Those brackets were used on the earlier trucks (both my '90 and my '94 had the stud type mounts).

Superlift uses (used?) a very similar bracket on their extended radius arm suspension kits, maybe a couple of theirs might work? (I don't have a stock piece here to confirm if they are the same or compatible)

Certainly it's easy enough to fab a couple up though, 3/16" or 1/4" thick material will work fine.

i used a grade 8 harden bolt that would fit the shock bushings after i took the steel sleave out of the bushing. if i remember right a 5/8 bolt fit perfect
