Hey guys I'm going to start shopping around for a ar-15. Next year with my graduation money I'm gonna buy one. My question is is what manufacturer makes a sub $1000 gun that isnt totally crap. I've been looking at Rock River arms and really cant find anything for under $1000. Somewhere in the 500-800 dollar ranger would be great cause I was wanting to get some nice accessories for it like the slide-fire stock a nice red dot sight or a good hunting scope. I'm primarily gonna use it for target shooting and hunting coyotes so what are you suggestions?

my suggestion is don't get the slide fire stock, it's 300 dollars of bullshit.

get a used colt.

that, on both points

there's a ton of good lowers and uppers out there. if you want new and to save a lot of money, buy everything separate and assemble it yourself.

you're in cali, can you own an AR there? lol

i've never bought a gun off a site. if you do want to do that, you'll have to find a gun dealer in your area and buy it through his FFL. i'd keep it local myself.

remember the ffl deal...

any lower level ar is just that... a lower level. but remember you could replace it piece by piece that cause you problems. just a suggestion.

personally i'm building one. you can get a stripped lower for as low as $50 plus shipping ffl sometimes from http://palmettostatearmory.com/ if you find the right sale... sure then you have to buy everything else... you can get a complete rest of gun for $400ish... but its still a lower level ar.

Step 1. Get your busted ass in your truck.
Step 2. Drive 80 miles east to Sacramento.
Step 3. Finger **** my AR.
Step 4. Shoot the shit out of it.
Step 5. Fall in love.
Step 6. Buy it.
:thefinger:

Seriously though, come shoot mine.
I'll type out a real response when I get to a computer.

Haha I wish. I'm not 18 yet so my dad would have to buy it and then he'd pull the "Its My Gun" bulshit on me.:icon_rofl:

California has alot more restrictions than most other states... investigate that, first.

Any good sites to get used colt ar-15's? I've been checking gun broker out.
My advice is to assemble one yourself. You can generally assemble one cheaper then you can buy one, and that way you know your gun inside and out.

But if you want to buy one, the big names, Colt, Smith and Wesson, Ruger, etc, all make nice guns but not sub $1000. The strictly AR manufacturers, RRA, Bushmaster, Armalite, DMPS, etc, all make high grade, mid grade and low grade rifles that are priced accordingly.

If you want to buy a used gun, check out CalGuns.net. You can find anything from used bare-bones rifles and carbines going for around $600, to New guns clapped out with all the tacticool mallninja shit, miles of rails, optics, back up optics, backup backup optics, backup backup backup iron sights, lights, lasers, and whatever else going for $3500+.

There's a lot of legal bullshit that goes along with owning an AR in CA.
Learn the laws, know the laws, stay legal.

I'v got $1800 in mine, and you will be hard pressed to find a smoother, sweeter shooting AR than mine.
