I just did this install myself last weekend. As far as tools, you'll need wd-40, various wrenches and sockets, a couple jacks and jack stands are helpful, a couple hammers, and spring compressors (these were the most important part for me).
Start with one side of the truck, taking off the tire, brake caliper, disconnecting abs sensor, disconnect spindle from upper control arm, disconnect shock, disconnect tie rod from spindle (it won't want to come, just hit the part of the spindle it goes through). Also disconnect the sway bar from the lower a-arm Pretty much take everything off that connects to the lower a-arm except the spindle, and tie the brake caliper up and out of the way to the frame.
Then, with jacks under the frame, remove the jack from under the a-arm, letting it swing all the way to the ground. Be careful not to let the spring pop out to the side! It could do some damage. That being said, however, my springs didn't come out without putting the spring compressors on them. Note: I rented a set of spring compressors from advance auto parts. When the spring is compressed and removed, be careful with it. There'll be a lot of energy stored in it!! At this point, clean anything that's dirty, and paint and replace anything that you need to. Then, stick the coil spacer on top of the coil spring (or on bottom depending on what kind you have, packaging should indicate where they should go). Putting the spring back was the hardest part for me, but just be patient and it'll go with slight persuasion lol. Then, reassemble everything. The stock shocks won't really be long enough, so if you can't afford new shocks, get a bunch of washers to stack on top of the shock when you put it in, which will give you about an inch of extra down travel. Then get an alignment pretty soon, because your camber will probably be a little off. Let me know if you have any questions or if anything was unclear!!
