Tag says 7.5 but looks like an 8.8. Axle tag is too far gone to read. I'm assuming the white paint marker is indicating it is a 5.13 axle ratio.

The truck came with the 7.5" open with 3.73 gears https://www.therangerstation.com/tech/ford-ranger-rear-axles/

The best way to know the gear ratio in your case is to pull the diff cover and look at the stamp on the ring gear to know.

To get a 5.13 ratio set of gears it needs to be a 8.8" as they wont fit in a 7.5". The 5-13 could also be the month and year the diff fluid was done also.

Thanks for the reply! I didn't think of that being the date, but it probably is. Needs a new gasket so I'll check the ring gear. It has a lift and big tires. Thank you.

It looks like an 8.8 because it is one. A 7.5 rear cover is flat top and bottom with sides that look like parentheses (__), an 8.8 looks like a square with the corners rounded off, as in your picture.
