Help I’m lost lol

I think it’s heat soak but I’m lost.
Replaced the starter last night. Started just fine in the morning to get to work and to get home and to leave for my 2nd job.. but when I went to leave work it didn’t start. No crank no start. Engine was cold was sitting for 7.5 hours but I’m not sure why it didn’t even crank. I bump started it and then shut it off immediately and it cranked and started just fine. What’s wrong?

I was thinking I could be the clutch switch or the ignition switch but I’m not 100% sure. Wild guess

Certainly possible. Could be a bad starter relay too. Even loose wiring. I'd look closely at the connections on the starter, relay, and battery.

why did you replace the starter?
one of the basic rules of troubleshooting is "what was the last thing you did"
absent other info I'd look at the starter & connections.

heat soak happens in the few minutes after something is shut down when the coolant stops flowing.
or when the fresh intake air stops cooling the intake manifold.
heat soak goes away as the engine cools off.

I replaced the starter because it was 1. Caked in oil for a valve cover leak that I’ve been trying to find time to fix and 2. Because it was 26 years old so I decided to do it regardless if it was the problem or not. It was happening before and after I replaced the starter. All connections are good. I Believe it’s a relay after further troubleshooting.

Check your positive terminal and see if it's a weak signal, rewire it. If it's weak not enough power it will not crank just click mines covered in old oil and a small leak but once the connection was established it cranked over no problem.
