Let me start off with saying I have a 94 ranger 2.3 4 cylinder dual ignition 180000 miles, and it has been the most reliable and slowest car I've ever had. So a few weeks ago my check engine light intermittently starting coming on, now it's on most of the time. I first pulled code 122 spout circuit open. I then checked with my timing light and found out only half my plugs are firing, (the drivers side or intake side). I switched my coils around to rule them out, problem pursists. After doing my research I decided the problem was most likely the Ignition control module or ICM. Well today bought one for 140 bucks and installed it. Well at first it seemed to be working, all plugs were firing, then the check engine light came on, half firing, then it went off again all firing. Well I was optomistic and took it for a test drive, it seemed ok, then engine died. It started up again fine and I got home. So when I gave it gas, it missfired like crazy and died. Needless to say I was pissed. Anyways I figurerd I rather run half my plugs and not have weird misfiring and dieing issues so I put the old ICM back on. Thankfully I was able to return the new one. Needless to say I'm back to square one. I've read a lot on 4 banger rangers having issues like this, but no real solutions, has anyone had any luck fixing this or have any suggestions as to what I need to looks at. Thank you so much for reading and helping.
