I have a 2002 ford ranger 3.0 tremor serise. It cranks fuel pressure and compression and spark system is fine but when you give it gas she dose not want to move you have to floor it to move a few inches. it sounds nasty and starts busting up. The truck ran fine on way to town one day and all a sudduen i herd a pop or backfire and i had almost total loss of power could not make it up a small slope. It has 240k on it and also the echust gets hot and cats seem to flow ok but thangs i have not done yet is check all injectors and try a noid light test. how the hell do i do the noid light test on the injectors that are coverd by the intake? and is there any way to tell if the injectors are stoped up or bad flow? I guess my next steps or check injectors and the noild light test. can anyone help me out on some more test i can could to check sensors? I have done almost everythang the chilton book list but i know alot of thangs its not listing and i hope some of you can help. Hopefully tomorrow im going to rerun all test. and post all results. I made a post like this before i could not find in a search but never got any where. Hopefully i can troubleshoot this thang before i give up and go old school 302 carb swap. I got to get my motor runing smooth again i cant haul nothing in last year. Dose anyone have any info for me or even anouther repair book source that may offer more details?

Does it idle normally? Can you rev it up OK in neutral? If you slowly depress throttle in drive does it accelerate OK, or is it just sudden acceleration that causes it to not respond?

idel is a bit rough half the time sometimes smooth sometimes not . when you accelrate it is slow and bust up and bad vibrations no codes when you try to take off in drive it dose not want to move like a slug and starts busting up.
I checked all 3 passenger side injector harness with noild light and they flashed but i did not check the driver side. do you know how to check the driver side do i have to remove thge upper intake and leave it off dureing testing? also to add the rev limiter is set to around 3k and it takes for ever to get there when you hold it wide open. but fuel pressure is good when reving

Ok guys I really need some help here. It really sucks not having a truck. Ok so here what i got. My buddy has a ford taures 2001 with 3.0 in it. It also runs good but is missing rverse and slips between 2nd and 3rd but other than that it runs good. NOW Im wanting to take off and switch over all of the sensors to my engine to rule out any electrical sensor problems I just need to know if all the sensors are compatable? Im pretty sure this is a non flex fuel motor but everthang looks the same. Also What about the flex fuel sensor dose anyone have any comments on it? maybe thats what is causeing the problems. Please help me out here Im really focused on fixing this thang.

Dang it nothing seems to be the same on the 01 taures but it sure looked like thangs where. back to square 1

UPDATE a year and half later........................

Still siting in same spot guys :( been so busy and broke and I have to be careful how i spend my money. Still cant afford to take it to a shop. Would love if anyone could help or direct me to a location online for help. As you can see I never really got any attention from much people on here as to what i should do cause im out of ideas

I have tested coil pack, new plugs wires twice. fuel pressure good. clean and tried 2 mafs , check all compression good. checked the 3 injectors i could get to and there good, all conectors clean and checked to make sure everything is secure. no codes , good spark cranks up good. Really need it runing as my current car has 350k miles and about to go. I have to now drain the tank and get a new batt and gas. I really cant afford a 302 right now and wish i could atlest figure out whats wrong with this thing without risking buying parts that might not fix it and wont be returnable. I cant afford risking a shop right now as they charge upwards 100+ in my area and even then they wont guarantee and may charge more to go further into diagnostics and i cant afford 200 or more to just figure out whats wrong.

Unbolt the cat from each exhaust manifold start it and see if it fixes your problem. Do not run the truck for long 5 minutes max! And when you shut it down have a rag that is soaking wet and plug the ends of your manifolds right away! If you don't you can burn a valve. Or if you have a section that you can unbolt in front of the cat unbolt it there. If this fixes your problem
You have a clogged cat. Remember don't run the truck long and plug it up quick

I don't know if this will help but I just spent a month finding the 171 174 lean problem on my 98 Taurus Duratec 160k miles. First make sure your FPR is working mine was bad and after a new fuel pump and new FPR (which was bad) it ran crappy but when I exchanged for a good FPR it ran a lot better. I'm sure you've looked for vac leaks as I did their is one place that is hard to test and thats the lower injector orings they crack mine were and yours most likely are with over 200k. Pull those injectors and clean them you can get a kit on ebay with orings and the screens (my screens crumbled in my hand) for $25 and their are videos online to show you how to clean them. What I did was get a set of rebuilt flow matched injectors for $120 from a company in FL and for the Ranger they may only be $99. The company sells on ebay and if they don't list your injectors just call them and they will hook you up. They are great to work with. Injectors will cause a lot of problems and I know your poor as I am but money well spent at least it was for me. With your mileage it could very well be the cats or O2 sensors and you should test them first. O2 sensors get lazy after 100k or so miles and won't through codes but can make it run crappy. My final problem was the MAF sensor which I had replaced with a rebuilt one and it was bad but all the tests I did showed it should have been good so I exchanged it and now my problem is solved. I hope this helps.
