Hey guys I need all the help I can get with this one....I was on my way to work today, about a 60 mile drive one way, when after about 30 mins of driving, the engine began making a horrible ticking noise (kind of like a card in the spokes of a bicycle wheel noise) and everytime I would try and accelerate, the engine would bog down....When I got to work and it sat for 30 mins or so, I started it up and it ran just fine....On my way home, after driving it around 30 mins or so it did it again, but then quit after 20 mins or so and it ran fine again...What do you guys think this could be? I just had this 2.9 put in about a month ago or so.

see if it has any codes. to learn how, follow the link in my signature. all you need is a paperclip. if you can, get it to a parts store and they can pull the codes for you

My 91 is doing the exact same thing. Have you figured your out yet?

Sounds like cards in bike spokes and bogs... idles perfect though. I did plugs today and doing cap and fuel filter soon. I read up on the 4.0's that the MAF gets dirty and causes bogging so i might give that a shot.

I think mine is from a loss of oil pressure....Once the oil gets to the top it ownt circulate back down.....I've been told engine flush will take care of it.....

2.9s dont have mass airflow sensors unless its a '90 cali emissions model. pull codes

agreed +1 on get the codes

Change your oil and oil filter..the oil filter maybe plugged/plugging and the relief valve isn't popping off. & something the codes won't show you

You should change your oil and filter with in 15 min after putting in a fresh engine, reason being you don't know how well it was flushed &cleaned during the assembly process. even if you did all the work....the oil and filter is your engines protection.

when changing it, note if it milk shake in color. or smells like gas
and again with in 500 miles.
