Help choosing the right ranger to purchase

Looking at purchasing an 2001 Ranger XLT 4x4 4.0 anything to look at for? Are there any changes to the motors to 2001-2011? What's the usual engine life on the 4.0?

2001 could be an OHV or a SOHC, different engines. Early SOHC enignes had some issues that were hammered out by about 2005 or so. Other than minor running changes to improve longevity the SOHC stayed pretty much the same.

As for the life span of a 4.0, if it is properly cared for they generally outlast the body.
