Hey everyone, my truck has been down for two weeks, because of a rear brake job. The backing plates had bent pins, so my mechanic recommended changing them. Neither him, I or several dealers can get the correct parts. They all list the wrong part number. The parts they keep sending have a larger center hole and the 4 bolt holes are spaced too far apart. The part number in their catalog is 2L5Z-2212-EA and 2L5Z-2211-EA

If they are 10 inch brakes... I believe there are two different backing plates. One for a 28 spline axle and one for a 31 spline axle.

Is your truck an FX4?

My truck is an XLT 28-spline 4:10 with limited slip, non-off-road, with BFT package

Manual transmission, long bed, 4x4, 4.0 sohc

Anyone have the correct part number? Why wouldn’t the dealer know this by my vin number???? I gave it to them! Shmucks!

Are they 10 inch brakes?

They also came with 9 inch brakes at some point.

Yes! 10”... that’s probably why this is so difficult. No aftermarket that I know of has the 10” backing plates.

That is exactly why...

They are out there... but they aren't cheap.

I would reconsider replacing them and just clean then up good.

And Mike...

I know there were some issues in the past... lets not go back down that road... OK?

Can I bend the pins back with a hammer or are they going to break? I’d rather just get new ones. I’m already in this thing.

So the anchor pins are bent?

Yes! They look pretty bad! 😆 I don’t know... maybe I can heat them and tap them back, but I’d rather not play that game. Not with brake parts. ...Damn! What a pain! Why wouldn’t the dealers know by my vin number?

I wouldn't trust them either...

you bend them plowing snow maybe?

I don’t think that did it. Not sure. I think what did it, is I used to park backwards up on a slight hill at my last job and when my truck sat there for more that a couple hours and it was cold or wet out, when I’d go to leave, the parking brakes didn’t seem to want to let go. Like they rusted onto the drum. And then suddenly I’d hear a BANG! And they were released... Then I figured out that if I back up a couple inches before I’d take off, I’d hear a “click click” and then drive forward and no bang, no sticking.

So you are the same Mike Tonon.

Enjoy the site... just don't let history repeat itself.

Good luck finding the backing plates.
