I have a 2000 ranger flex fuel with 3.0 I spun the bearings in it when the fuel pump fail do to the gear failure on the rod that runs up to the sensor. I rebuilt the motor and put the motor back in the truck no it throws the code saying cam sensor circuit failure I replaced the cam sensor and it still misses, and the check engine light I have noticed it also throws a code saying cylender four misfire, but when I pulled the plugs cylender three was the only plug that was black so I thougt the coil might be jumping inside so I replaced it and it still misses. I was wondering if any one knows the correct voltage that goes to the cam position sensor? HELP PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:bawling:

Cam Position

I have the same error and did not replace anything. I have not gotten around to fixing it yet but the Chilton's said something like "Do not just replace the cam position sensor, it is the circuit, not necessarily the cam position sensor." and then goes on to tell you what to test.

Check it out. Your local library may have a copy if you don't. i always buy one when I get a vehicle.

Cam Shaft

Hey, I just got done with a new engine rebuild and had this same problem. I replaced the whole unit and would continually reset the check engine light with a code reader but after about 7 miles it would immediately come back on. The end solution was to go to the ford dealership and have them "reflash" your computer. It's been two months now and my check engine light hasn't come back on so I figure it worked.

If I unhook the battery to reset the check engine light it wont come back on again until I shut the truck off then it will come back on. Does any one know if the cam sensor tool that fits a 99 also fits the 2000? And does any one know the voltage that is suppose to be going to the sensor?

DirtDobber, the MIL comes on after seeing two consecutive code faults, so that's why it stays off until the next restart.

Sorry I don't know the voltage going to the sensor for sure, but it'll
either be 12v or 5v. Since the MIL goes out when you reset it, I think
you've got the synchro misaligned......

The cam position sensor is a magnetic voltage generator like the crank position sensor. It puts out an A/C voltage. Both wires are signal, you will find no reference voltage. I believe its 2-3 volts A/C at idle. Good luck.
