Hello all, I own a 1999 Ford ranger XLT with a 4r443 transmission and a 3.0l v6. Recently I was pulling a trailer around 2,900 pounds when I had to brake in a quick attempt to avoid hitting an animal. after that mess was cleared up, when I went to start the truck and put it in drive, I did so, and... nothing... . I stepped on the gas and it wouldn't go anywhere, it wasn't rolling back and felt like something was locked up, but the engine was not engaging. I tried to put it in neutral and still nothing, it would not roll or budge at all. After putting it in first, It pulled all the way up the hill where at the top I proceeded to put it in second and limp home. After unloading, I attempted to put it in drive and all it did was creep forward like a normal vehicle, but when I stepped on the gas it would creep just a little faster. You could tell the engine was not engaging the transmission. I never felt the transmission shift at all nor did it jerk a little. reverse is the exact same and does not work either, which I hear is common. I am going to check the obd for codes, but I haven't done it yet.
My question is, Have any you ever had this happen and is it easily fixable. If not I would like to swap in a manual transmission, but I don't know which year is compatible and I understand the bell housings are different for each engine. Currently I am looking at swapping a manual transmission from a 93 Ranger. Also, has this been done before and is there any good guidance someone could offer. This truck has to be back on the road as soon as possible, because I use it to haul things for my business.
Thank you for any help in advance, regards, Daniel
