Last night after my wife shut the truck off and turned the lights off she closed the door and noticed the dome light and the cab roof back up lights were on.
I went out to see what I could do and could not find a reason for this. I restarted the engine, put the shifter in Reverse backed up, pulled forward, placed the shifter in Park, shut off the engine and both the dome light and cab roof lights were still on. I moved the dome light selector to all 3 positions back and forth, no help. Finally out of desperation I removed the bulbs (total 5). Has anyone else experienced this? The truck is a Ranger XLT 4L 1996 model.

Take some wd40 and spray your door lock mechanism not the key.Open and close the door a bunch off times .This has worked on mine .Do both sides the switch for the dome lights in there and when it gets dirty it wont turn the dome off.

if lubing the latches doesn't work i have seen a few of these with broken wires in the door jamb causing the same issue if that all checks out the door ajar switch is probably junk.

You sure the dimmer switch (the one for your dash backlighting) isn't all the way over to bright? It clicks into a position where it turns the dome and cargo light on. It hasn't been mentioned yet, so I'm just taking a guess here...

BINGO! i bet we have a winner here...

If you rotate your headlight switch allthe way counter clockwise you will feel it click into position turning the interior dome light on and the rear cargo light to illuminate the bed.
