Help a shade tree mechanic?

Alright I am new to all this got one hell of a deal on a ranger. Probably because I need to replace everything on it! Doing it one piece at a time.

Yesterday when coming homei pushed on the brakes and it finally stopped, but made a sound of air passing through. I put in some brake fluid because it is was low. Sound still continues until i turn truck off. What needs fixed now?

Air sound might be the brake booster, basically would be a vacume leak? Pedal seem real hard? Almost like no power brakes?

Yes yes yes!!! IS this an easy fix a line etc or think the booster needs replaced.

took a closer look

Looked at the booster, there is a hose with a plastic plug on the booster. The rubber grommet on the booster the plug goes into and is split. Probably my problem. after i replace this do i have to bleed the brakes?

no you don't have to bleed the brakes because of replacing the plug. those are just vacuum lines that give you the power brakes. there is a hose attached to the plug if it looks worn at all replace that if you can. (preventive maintenance for $1)

Well, I pulled out the plug, and it is cracked in several places. I went to the local shade tree mechanic stoeres, and of course they have nothing that works. I will check with a more reputable parts dealer in town tomorrow. If they do not have one, looks like I will have to order from LMC they have one that comes with the check valve as well, guess it wouldn't hurt to change that too! All for 6.95 might I add!
