I really need some help. Will a manual transmission from a 2.9 liter bolt to a 2.8 liter motor as long as I get the clutch components from the 2.9? And will the 2.9 flywheel blot to a 2.8 liter crank? If not (Or if it can),can I put the manual transfer case from a four speed four wheel drive on a five speed two wheel drive? Any and All help and suggestions are welcome. This is the only thing stopping me from putting my 2.8 in my truck. It currently has a 2.3 liter in it but the 2.3 and 2.8 bell housing are different. Can I put a 2.8 liter bellhousing on my 2.3 liter tranny as long as it get it from the same type of tranny (the current 2.3 tranny is a Toyo Koygo 4 speed). I cant find a 2.8 liter tranny in any junk yard I've been to.

Thx

P.S. If any of this is confusing please tell me and Ill try to help out.

yes, infact using atleast the 2.9 flywheel is mandatory.

And will the 2.9 flywheel blot to a 2.8 liter crank?

Yes, again doing so is mandatory, because of how the pilot bearing mounts.

If not (Or if it can),can I put the manual transfer case from a four speed four wheel drive on a five speed two wheel drive?

No.

What you did was expand the tranny options I can put in my truck and the 2.9 tranny is more common. I just need to find one with a manual transfer case so my front drive shaft will work. If I cant find one then I assume I can put a bell housing off a 2.8 on a 2.3 (the transmissions are the same).

Thx

Well so far all my 2.8 stuff is bolting up to the 2.9. I like the 2.8 clutch slave better, but that isn't in yet, so I'll hold off there. Minor sheet metal differences, but nothing that a saws-all or a junkyard trip won't fix. 2.8 flywheel fit (odd manifold spacing), bearing in crankshaft not flywheel, no problems known about pilot bearing, but clutch kit came with different sized ones.

OTOH, my parts car was a salvage Frankenstein, so who knows what is in it.

Well I bit the bullet and decided to get a bellhousing and clutch components for my truck (it was $150 instead of $350 for a tranny thats condition was somewhat unknown) instead of getting an entire tranny. I'll just have to live with a four speed, not that I care, but the truck will rarely see highway driving and long distances. But thx for all the info.
