!Help! 1985 A/C climate control panel VS 1988

I have aftermarket installed AC, the AC button originally is a 3 wire, one wire is grounded.
The new climate control box I got from a 1988 , the AC button is a 2 wire.

Is the extra wire on my old AC just for the illumination if switch is ON? If so, how would I rewire the new climate control box? rest is plug and play.

for context, i wont do any messing about with the AC wiring until its fully complete and I can verify everything functions, but this was just a idea, since the new controller is alot cleaner.

IIRC the blue part of the 88 lights up when on too.

I'd get a meter and work it out. Worst case scenario, you use the newer switch to trigger a relay.

nah i did some testing, the newer looking one from the 88 is just a 2 pole open/close toggle switch, dont ask me how i found out :ROFLMAO: there is the possibility of the light being inline with that circuit and just grounds off the case or something along those lines.

my 85 one is a 3 wire, one is grounded, and i do remember it having a light turn on when it was toggled. not really going to dive deep into it, thats besides the point.

I ended up just sanding down the plastic retaining rivets on the faceplate , swapped it out to the one i have originally (since there was never a issue, just was old and ugly looking) problem solved
