First, I would like to say hello and thank you for accepting me as a member here. I have a question for you. I have searched some of the forums already, but I want to be clear. I can't seem to find a site that would show me the compatible engines to put into a 2002 Ford Ranger XLT supercab. 4wd, 4L, V6 SOHC, eighth digit E in the vin. It is a manual transmission. I have an engine available to me that is from a 2000 Explorer with 129K on it. The guy tells me i would need to change the intake manifolds. Am I better off looking further? I sure would appreciate it.

The intake from an 00 Explorer is quite different from the one on your truck. So are the exhaust manifolds.

On the bright side, you already have the correct ones.

Any time you have to replace an engine just kind of assume that intake and exhaust manifolds, some sensors, and possibly the valve covers and oil pan will need swapped, even if it comes from the same year and model, as some times there are minor differences due to mid-year changes or the differences in California vs Federal emissions.

Beyond those things any 4.0 SOHC engine 1997 to 2010 will work for you.
