Hello TRS, it is good to be back. Believe it or not, I used to be on these forums almost 20 years ago under the username “rusty85” which is insane to think of. I was like 11 or 12 :ROFLMAO:

I just bought a 1994 4.0 2wd 5 speed from my uncle for $900. It needs a clutch. He bought it in a pinch awhile ago when he needed a truck and since then it’s just been sitting around in the backyard ever since I moved here, more than a year ago. I kept resisting buying it, finally I gave in and now I can’t stop working on it. It definitely needs a lot, I am slowly but surely getting to everything. Just got a complete clutch kit today... soon it shall be installed.

The night I decided I wanted it
First wash in over a year (4/16):
59776

Today:
59777

So far:

Gutted interior (was so gross)
New O2 sensors
MAF, IAC, TPS out of nice junkyard Ranger
Flowmaster 10 w turndown
Headlights, corners, taillights
Ghetto fixed sagging bumper (washers)
Trimmed rear quarters
Spacer lift (for now) (yes cheapest off of evilBay)
Junkyard grille
Junkyard driver window regulator
Junkyard glove box
Junkyard non broken dash vents
Fixed tailgate functionality

plus just odds and ends cleaning things up and getting rid of the jankness it’s accumulated over the years from tweaker owners probably.

I am so excited about the truck now.. I try to get something done every day.

There’s a lot I want to do but the things that are urgent to me and need attention:

Clutch
Engine bay harness (eek)
Dash swap (hate old man tan)
Seats (still gross)
Needs catalytic converters that aren’t gutted (maybe)
Master cylinder
Gear oil

Eventually I’d like to build a fresh 4.0 for it and get it painted. Those are long term goals.

Thanks for checking it out. I am excited to be back on these forums!

-Steven

Question already:

Will a dash from a 1991 explorer swap into this truck?

Thank you
I’m pretty sure it will. (99.9% sure) there are some articles in our tech library that may clear that up for you.

Welcome to the site.

Looks good!

'95 was the changeover year I believe. So if your truck has the same square dash as the '91 it should swap. I believe the power distribution was moved in '93, and I'm not sure if the large plug on the driver's side firewall is the same. I imagine you'll need to do some re-pinning of that plug to get various things working like wipers.

I have the wiring diagrams for both I can post

Third gen started in '93. The dash looks totally different from earlier years. Much curvier and more rounded. I'm pretty sure there is info in the tech library telling which years dashes will swap. It has more to do with the shape of the firewall than the face of the dash that you look at. Some people have done some crazy swaps. But not all are easy bolt-in projects.
