I've owned my 87 Ford Ranger for 13 years. I'm the second owner. Bought her from an old man up in Seattle. She's a good little truck with a lot of quirks that I just deal with -- like no odometer, no gas gauge, no speedometer. I'm not mechanical, so I take my chances, which has gone pretty well -- I've only run out of gas twice in our 13 years.

The reason I am joining this group is because I would like to get advice on how to fix the current issue that developed -- the turn signals stopped working. The rear wires are broken and hanging down. When I went to investigate the situation, I found that all of the wires are so brittle that they easily break. I think it is time to replace all of the wires. Is this something that I should tackle myself? I've never wired anything. I looked at the wiring diagram and it makes sense, but what parts do I need? If you don't recommend a newbie to replace wires, then do you have a suggestion for an Austin Texas mechanic?

Any help is appreciated.
Thank you

welcome.

there are several methods to use in ease of procurement and cost effectiveness.

a trailer wire kit will have all of the wires together and you can just restring from the 10 pin at the firewall on back would likely be the simplest and most cost effective in time and money.

they sell new light pigtails, while not oem quality....they are simple enough to work with....i suggest to solder theconnections but careful butt splicing and sealing with silicone can work fine for the next 13 years.
