What's going on everybody? I just re-registered after being de-registered back in July due to some weirdness here. I am glad to have a resource again for my truck. I have a 1992 Ford Ranger super cab with a 3.0L V6 and a 5-speed. I bought this truck back in June to replace my gas guzzlin 78 Chevy Malibu. The only work I have done to this truck is some body work on some rotted out areas. Here are some pics of my truck and my other projects.

Welcome and thats a nice looking malibu and LTD, and the ranger is cool, well cus its a ranger.

My fault!! I should have said that the blue 78 Malibu was mine and the red 67 is a friend's project that we have been maintaining. It does more sitting than anything else. I have another Ford truck that is a 1953 F-250. This is my permanent project and the truck will live again; when I get the money and time for it. The LTD is my mom's daily driver. When I am done working on that car (needs new paint and I will build a 351 EFI engine for it) I will start working to get the Ranger into a more presentable state.

I like that picture it is really cool, and i love old ford trucks.

I love old trucks too; which is why I bought that truck from my dad when I was 14 years old. I had plans to resto-rod the truck, but high school and later college were taking too much time and money to attempt such a task. That was a good thing because I was kinda getting into the billet phase back then and I would have wasted money on something that I would not like a few years down the line. Here are a couple of pics of the engines for the 53. The first is the cracked flathead that is in there right now and the other is the 390FE that I will rebuild as the first engine for the 53. Hopefully I will eventually save up the funds to find and rebuild another flathead.

It's been a while since I last posted. There have been some changes to my plans for each project around here. First off, my father told me not to build a hydr. roller 351W EFI engine for my mom's '86 Crown Vic project since gas prices will probably never dip below $4/gallon again. This leaves some future funds for other projects. After receiving some complaints from concerned neighbors about my '53 F-250, I am going to spend some time and money to get the truck running and moving under its own power B4 tearing it down for the resto-rod process. I am going to build the loudest--lumpiest cammed 390FE that I have the skill to build; to ease the conscious of my concerned neighbors;). My father just bought an '01 F-250 Super Duty with the utility body option for his welding rig. I would like to do a CAI and headers (his exhaust is new on that) to increase torque and hopefully MPGs. I just got done changing the radiator in my Ranger and have come to the conclusion that I would like to do an e-fan and headers on the truck to gain MPGs. These are the plans for now

Hello Again for the Second Time

Well, back in December of 2008, my Ranger was T-boned. I was going to try to save her, but something was amiss with the computer and since the accident was the other driver's fault, it was totalled. I got an S-10 (wait, don't throw the rotten produce at me just yet) as a replacement because it was the closest thing I could find to the Ranger. Fast forward to now. My S-10 has a decent Maaco (yeah, I know; decent and Maaco in the same sentence; pfft) paintjob...............covering a lot of rot and rust. I only discovered that last year when the gas tank fell off. So the body mounts are kinda falling off too now; so I am in the market for another small truck. I found a few to look at. I am really interested in looking at two Rangers. Both in PA. I will have to devote a weekend to it or something. Anyways, if I get a Ranger, I will probably do the V8 swap, unless the engine is in really good shape. Though, I have a 5.0L left over from another swap that I need to clear out of the garage. Keep your fingers/claws/metal hooks/etc....crossed for me :)

Well good news. I found a Ranger that's closer to home. It's a 1991 Ranger with a 4.0L and an AOD. It's the same color inside and out as my old Ranger. It even has the super cab, so I can carry more than one other person with me :) Being that it's an AOD, my mom can drive the truck while I work on her car on my days off. Sometime down the line (hopefully not too far) I want to swap in the 5.0L that was in her Crown Vic and a 5-speed. Hopefully all of the starter (reference) holes or what-not are under the carpeting. I will see what is involved with that kind of swap. I know I will keep it EFI and probably retain the smog crap. I have to complete some other projects first, but I hope to do this sometime within the next couple years. I will get pics when I bring the truck home and also after I get batteries for my Nikkon FM.

I must apologize; I thought I posted pics of my current Ranger. It's the same as the 1st Ranger except that it's a year older and has options (power windows and locks). The body is in much better shape as well. I just got done replacing the exhaust from the cats back. I installed a Summit turbo muff that was going to go under my mom's car (found a quieter muffler). It wasn't quiet enough, so I scrounged around the garage and found my old resonated Monza tip from the Cavalier. That has made the Ranger almost drone-free. I also replaced the intake and valve cover gaskets; and also painted the valve covers and intake. I replaced the wires as well along with the plugs. I have a DUI coil pack waiting to be installed. I will get fresh plugs for that because I will need to open the gap a bit. So here are the pics. N-JOI

So a couple additions to the Ranger. First is the headlight relay harness upgrade. I did this back in January. I had teh switch in the LTD burn out on me and I thought that while I was at it, I would install the harness in the Ranger too.

A month ago, my 17 year old exhaust tip fell off. I guess 15 years of getting kicked around the garage floor (that saw a few floods) may have taken its toll. The inner perforated pipe separated from the outter stainless shell. At least there was still a little of the fiber glass packing left. So I got another exhaust tip, hacked off the 90* bend in the tailpipe, and ran it straight back. I used adapters, hangers, and clamps that I had lying in the basement. The truck is quieter now than it was with the old tip intact. Here are some pics.

I also replaced the front rotors and pads with Diamond Slotted rotors and metallic pads from SP Performance. I don't have pics of that, but with some luck, I will have some by the end of the summer.

Next up is a 3G upgrade. Luckily for me, the F4TE 351W (LTD project) that came from the '96 F-250, shares the same alternator case (except that it's a 3G); so it was traded in as a core. This is an easy upgrade I did for the Crown Vic, so when I am not being so lazy, I will do this to the Ranger.

Later this summer or perhaps early fall, I plan on rebuilding the front suspension, as the roads have beaten it up a bit (stoopid Polar Vortex!:annoyed:).

Here are a couple pics of the 3G swap in the Ranger. Since it shares the same alternator casing as the '96 F-250, it just drops right in. Snip off the 2 charging cables (fatter black wires with orange stripe), duct tape them off, and disconnect at the fender relay. Separate the white wire and solder on the pigtail that goes into the single port on the alternator. The regulator harness just plugs in (you do nothing to this harness). I used 2 gauge cable and a 175A Mega Fuse for the charging duties. Route the cable and viola, 3G.

B2 Beginner

Hello everyone, I'm new to the forum and I've been reading some great info on B2's and engine swaps. I have a 89 B2 which I've decided to do the engine swap to a 4.0 but I'm confused about a couple of things. Maybe someone can help me. Will a 2001 4.0 from a ranger fit on my B2? Next question is; will I need to change my front and rear axels to compensate for the power?

Thanks

I am looking for another vehicle to replace my Ranger. It blew a head gasket on the 4.0L last month (or what was left of it) and did a temporary patch job (Blue Devil) to fix it. Funny thing is that it runs way better than it did when I first got the truck 4 years ago. If it weren't for the damage that the previous owners did to this truck, I would keep it and start massing the parts needed for a 5.0L swap. Ironically, the heater core replacement really blasts some heat into the truck. Could've used that last winter during the Polar Vortex. Hopefully it lasts the winter as I look for another vehicle. Probably gonna get a car as my Chevy C20 will be getting the hauling duties.

Also, I had to replace the headlight plug on the driver's side on my LMC headlight relay kit. The plugs that come with the kit are flimsy at best. The driver's side headlight was progressively getting dimmer and would shut off when driving. After several months of this, it gave up all together. I cut the LMC plug off and soldered a NAPA plug on yesterday morning. The driver's side headlight is bright as anything. Upon inspection, the ground was charred and bubbled the inside of the plug housing. I didn't have enough time to switch the passenger side plug as that has been dim for a year now. :-/
