I think it's about time for a little update, it's been forever.

Progress has been slow since money has been tight. The whole combination of picking up the 67, all the holidays, and work being slow. However i'm still making progress.

I decided to build myself a rotisserie. Right around $400 in steel mostly cut to the lengths I needed, and another $100 for hardware and caster wheels. Will also need two hydraulic rams for raising and lowering the car while on the rotisserie...that'll be another $100. Grand total when it's all said and done will be about $650 with welding consumables factored in, so it'll be a little cheaper than the $1000 + shipping pre fabbed ones.

Here's pics from the start, all the way to where I currently am.

I found some decent and basic plans online, so I drew up a quick sketch of what I needed to do because the plans online were a bit bland.
003-16.jpg

All the steel fresh from the steel supplier.
001-18.jpg

All grade 8 hardware and nice casters.
006-24.jpg

Pieces numbered.
004-18.jpg

Freshly welded adjusting brackets. You can tell where I tack welded all the pieces.
002-16.jpg

Fresh.
004-17.jpg

Front attaching arms freshly welded.
001-17.jpg

Beauty.
002-15.jpg

They'll work great.
004.jpg

Temporarily attached together. Casters welded on.
008.jpg

Rotating components welded.
005-1.jpg

Holes drilled.
006-1.jpg

Taking shape.
002.jpg

And the part that I had to wait 3 weeks to get because no local welding supply stores had it...
002-1.jpg

Out with the old
005-19.jpg

In with the new.

Should have it finished on my next trip up, in two weeks. More pics then.:icon_welder:

glad to see you are keeping with the projects , and definitely diggin that 67

a little update on the 69 , they inflated the tires this past summer (surprisingly hold air) , cleaned all the pine needles off and got a true car cover for it , his sons plan is to very gently and slowly pull it out next summer

and i may be going to look at a barn find myself , 64 Ford Thunderbolt , I already found one in my county tucked away in a barn , but i have heard rumors of another in an abandoned garage on the other side of the county , i am going to take a look on monday , snap some pics and verify that it is a true Thunderbolt

I figured I'd do a little update. Since my computer is down, I'm going to repost some pics I have from facebook. Hopefully it works.

I had to get a new mig gun for my Millermatic 250. I bought the welder for 400 bucks about a year ago, because it wasn't working right...the previous owner jerry rigged a lincoln gun on it, with some stupid adapter...and was trying to run flux core wire through a liner that wasn't big enough. Probably because the idiot couldn't figure out how to hook up the gas lines. So, I spent the $220 on a brand new Millermatic M25. She works beautiful now.

Thankfully I live right down the street from Northern tool and equipment... It's so damn hard to find these.

More welds, with the new mig gun. The millermatic 135 could barely handle the smaller stuff I welded up earlier, so I'm very glad I have the 250!

Made the lower ram mounting bracket, and welded it on.

Just have to finish the upper ram brackets, bolt some stuff up, drill some holes, bolt more stuff up, cut and weld a few more things, connect it all, and see if it all works....lol.

I guess it's time for an update.

The rotisserie is complete, however I ran into a snag when mounting the car. The rear bumper bracket, which connect to the trunk floor and rear frame rails, were not anywhere near strong enough to hold the weight of the gutted car...so I'll have to repair the rear end, or maybe just make a bracket that attaches directly to the frame rails as a temporary fix. I gotta replace all that crap anyways, and can't really do that while it's on the rotisserie, so I'm probably going to wait until that's done before I actually put it completely on the rotisserie.

I did partially mount it, just to see how it's going to work, and to drill some final holes and get final measurements. Looks like it's going to work great! Here are some updated pics from finishing up the rotisserie.

Upper ram bracket.

Connecting the center pieces to the rest of the rotisserie.

Almost complete, but still plenty left to do.
IMG_2038.jpg

Using the engine lift to get the car to the right height to mount to the rotisserie. About the height of a normals set of car ramps.
IMG_2124.jpg

Front section mounted. It can be used by itself as a lift since I added the caster wheel towards the center span on each section. The extra casters will make it easier to move also, for a total of 6 caster wheels all together.
IMG_2128.jpg

The 3 ton ram lifts the car with absolutely no problem, and can go much higher than this.

Rear bumper setup...where I ran into the snag and had to stop.

Also ripped the dash out...:icon_thumby:

Hopefully, if funding is in order....I'll have the new rear frame and floors ordered, and can knock that out, and get this thing spinning in the air soon. :icon_welder:

It's good to see it back. I was wondering about this thread just the other day.

:icon_cheers:

A few other things I forgot...

I stumbled upon a passenger side mirror, which my car is missing, at a thrift store. Nobody knew what it was off of, but as soon as I saw it I knew it was for a mustang. The date code and ford part number say it's for a 70, but they were the same for both years....Got it for a whopping .75 cents!!!!
IMG_1968.jpg

Also, the engine is looking a bit more complete. Special thanks goes out to Dave from point (Dave of the nord) for selling me the Holley carb....it's going to be great for this engine!

I just went from six to midnight. :icon_bounceblue::icon_bounceblue:

It's amazing what that little bit of aluminum, contrasting with that beautiful ford blue, and a bit of chrome polish on them nasty looking old valve covers will do....Add the yellow plug wires I have on it now...and a set of headers...it'll be almost complete. For some reason, those gm boat anchors just don't look as sexy as them ford engines!

Next fab project may be an engine test stand.

Seeing this thread brought back some (sad) memories of my older cousins Mach 1 he had around 1980,it was black on black with a gold stripe. It had the wing,4 speed and Ford Rally's.....he ran through a yard and over some large rocks and smashed the whole front end....it was junk after that. Seem I have seen pics (long long ago) of bolt on/in bars that were made to temporarily strengthen the body of a uni body car while on the rotisserie, might have been also to keep things straight on a body on frame car while off the frame.

I just happen to come on & notice this thread. Nice stangs & rangers :icon_thumby:& I only have a few words for you. You suck:thefinger::bawling:also like your rotisserie build & all of your equipment:D

Not to worry, Bro I am still doing the same with my 67 Fastback 'Stang. It is sanded down to the metal and waiting for a paint job that might never happen. I have a brand new 427 side oiler I bought new in a crate over 20 years ago. That motor is still waiting to be be installed as well....just never have enough time to do all the things we need to get done, eh?? lol

And I still don't like you. Nice looking setup BTW.

Chrome valve covers look very sharp, but I am so sick of smelling burning oil with mine I could scream. Mine just won't seal.

This winter my chrome Edelbrock valve covers are getting retired for some cast aluminum ones.
