Are they good headers or do I need to shelve out loads of money and get the JBA ones for my 92 4.0?

I guess the question would go more into what are you trying to achieve with headers... the 4.0 is a low-rev engine so not much you can do about it

Well I'm planning on getting a whole new exhaust setup and was thinking might as well get headers to go with it. Curious to know if they might help with performance a little or maybe improve the tone of the exhaust? I don't know a whole lot about them really.

I am by no means an expert, but I do know that the 4.0 is a low-rev engine and the gains you would experience by a header setup are in the high-rev range, and you would need to modify your air intake as well to see any benefit from the improved exhaust (not much you will gain if what goes in is still the same amount of air). As far as sound, you're better off with a cat-back system such as a Flowmaster or Gibson setup. Search around in the forums and tech section, I'm sure you'll find plenty of info that will guide you to what you're looking for

I ran a set of Borla's until the collector on the drivers side cracked
and that made me pull them off....

For the two years I ran them I noticed a slight improvement in Mileage
and they seemed to "Fatten" torque in the upper midrange.

The Hedman headers I've seen use a three bolt collector that would seem to make it easier to get a good seal between the Y-pipe and the headers.

Headers on a generally "low revving" 4.0 would seem to fit more in the "they can't hurt" category rather than the "you gotta have them" category (like on a high revving 5.0)
but as for the question "are they worth it?"

I can't answer that for you.

But I wouldn't recommend spending what a set of headers for an "odd duck" like a 4.0
usually cost.

Headman and JBA headers are great. I have used them before. If you plan on building the motor...cam, piston kit, valve upgrade, I would go with headers. If not..then just get a real nice exhaust system and don't spend the extra money...use it for the truck for some goodies.

If you need a pair of manifolds I would go with the heddmans. I have a set on mine and they are nice enough. I got the eastwood spray on super high temp stuff and its holding up pretty well. A few rust spots were they got wet before I cured the stuff, but no new spots since. I did have to have the shipping coat sand blasted off though. Nothing else I tried would even scratch it.

I have a set of Hedman's on my 347 and never had any problems out of them. I put them on in 2000, and only have the passenger side wrapped.

My Hedmans have held up nicely.

I do have an issue with my DS collector flanges hitting the bellhousing on my M5. When I brought this issue up years ago it was said that it wasn't a problem with an automatic. The problem area is where the M5OD's case is very thick around where it's bumped out for the starter.

I have a short ram intake with a heat shield I built for on so I guess the intake isn't entirely stock. But I figure I'll just get a Gibson cat back system for it then. Thanks a lot for your help guys!

I like the Hedmans on my 5.0, they seem to be holding up pretty good.

I wouldn't spend a lot of money on headers for a 4.0, I don't know if the return on investment would be there on an otherwise stock engine.

I got mine because they were $170 and fit better than just about any manifold. I never ran the engine without them but with them I do quite enjoy it with them. :D
