Does a 05 Sport Trac use the HEC type clusters as their clusters? Ive got an 05 Sport Trac sitting here in my yard that was given to me for almost nothing (engine is bad). I also have a 2000 Explorer with a good 5.0/ 4r70W that is a low milage total wreck (the power train is in excellent shape). I am planning on trying to place the power train from the Explorer into the Sport Trac. I would like to keep it EFI. However, I can put a carb manifold onto it and use a C-4 that I also have. Ive tried researching this and can't seem to find anything close to matching what I want to try (I'm going to use what I've got and not try to buy a different plat form). The closest thing I've found is a Ranger swap. In these forums they mention using a HEC (Its somehow a CAN Bus system that married to the computer of the newer Fords) and its almost impossible to use an older system with this type of unit. I guess I could try to take everything from the 2000 including the cluster and under dash wiring but if I don't have to do this, who would want to do that. That why I'd like to know if anyone knows if a 2005 Sport Trac uses a HEC cluster system? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I would adapt the 4.6 setup to it.

I don’t think they had HEC until the 2nd generation 07+.

One of the things that caused me to quit working on swaps.....at that time.

That’s right.... the ‘04-05 had the same dash as the earlier ones, but with the digital odometer. Then they had the new dash when it returned for ‘07.

So does this mean that the only thing that Id have that doesn't work would be the OD? I could add a digital Dakota Od if that's all?

No... the digital odometer is just the easy way to tell. It means the entire cluster won’t work.
