heavyfire's build thread

Cool. Looking forward to watching this progress.

haha ok its gunna be kinda slow tho... right now ive owned the truck for 7 or 8 months i believe, idk but it will be a year in june :D

Your making good progress, I've had mine almost exactly a year and have only done minor mods. Hopefully that will change lol. So I have some questions. How do the 4x4 prerunners do their front suspension? Could I take a D44 TTB suspension out of an F-150 and long travel that?

Edit: Like this! http://therangerstation.com/tech_library/Dana44TTB.htm

well of course you can do anything haha... i would get a ttb frame and swap all your stuff onto it if you wanna do a ttb setup. but ive seen some pretty cool long travel 4x4 a arm rangers but a-arms are jus more expensive to LT.

i think a ttb frame on your truck with f150 d44 beams would be pretty cool haha

Ok maybe I won't do a D44 TTB that sounds like a lot of work for a daily driver lol. How can I do maybe a mid travel setup. Is that what you were saying with the A Arms? Because the only really long travel kit for a 98-00 4x4 Ranger is the Dixon Bros one which is like $3500. I would like to build parts of it at a time.

haha and dixon bros is a bit overpriced. custom kits are the way to go. i have a couple phone numbers of some fabbers here in california, they might ship the stuff to you but you would have to pay for shipping. your truck is torsion bar isnt it? torsion bars arnt really that good for prerunners (or anything else for that matter) haha. lemmie try and find that LT 4x4 that i mentioned earlier

well this is the dixon bros one haha.

you can have something custom made for cheaper and better. but there isnt much more you can do, you cant put a midtravel kit on a a-arm 4x4 unless you pull out the 4wd and if your gonna do that you might as well long travel it anyways. there isnt really any inbetween cause of the torsorion bars and such.

Ya I have torsion bars :annoyed: I wanna just get rid of all of it lol. That kit doesn't look that complicated, especially for how much they want.

call this number for a price quote: 1-619-384-2997 his name is Brad allen, he is the one that did my kit. jus ask him if he can ship the parts and how much they would cost

Cool thanks! I'll try and call him soon.

so your running 4.56. I also have a 2.3 ,not duratec. & 33 bfg km2s. Called a long time friend that owns a 4wd shop. I haul on a daily basis & also have a slide in truck camper that goes in during camping season. I mentioned to him that I want to be in 5th gear at 70 pulling about 2700-2800 rpms. He inputted info into a calclator & he said I should go with 4.88s.

Whats is your rpms @ 70 with 4.56s

well at around 70 im at around 2900-3000 rpms in 5th gear (same as with the 31s and stock 4.10's) but depending on what the truck is mainly for will also affect what gears to get. if you live in a hilly aera or you go offroading alot or you tow alot then 4.88's are the best bet, but if you live in a flat place, dont use the truck offroad much and you dont tow much then 4.56s would be fine...

i like my 4.56 gears with my 33's and tha duratec it drives about the same as with the 31's (with alot worse mpg haha) and i can cruise at 70-75 down the highway (or 55-60 thru the dezert :D )

do you have the correct speedo drive gear to show your actually doing 70? The gears are available at dealerships & are around $6 each.
