hey guys,
i'm really confounded. i have a 84 ranger with the 2.0 in it. it feels like my e brake is on. this happened first when i was away from home, and when i arrived home, i felt all of my brakes, and they felt perfectly cool. i felt my wheel bearings, and they were cool. i think it's an engine problem, because when i put the clutch in, the drag didn't feel the same. it feels like a loss of power, but the weird thing is, i took it for a drive, and at first, it was fine. i actually got a little tire spin, but then after, it did the same thing. hardly no acceleration, top speed of 55. feels like a really hard drag.

Still got the cat converter on it? If so it may be clogged. Is this a new development?

yeah, it's a 4 speed. the clutch might be slipping, but there's no chatter or burning clutch smell.

the cat converter? it is a cali car, so i've heard the cat has porcelain beads or something in it. it could be that. yes it is a new development.

Jack one tire up at a time and spin it.

so i tried a few things today, but i wasn't able to jack up the wheels. i think it's a power loss, so i tried a few things. i tried looking at the dist. cap, and it was pretty toast. i traded it out for a new cap and rotor, and it runs a lot better, but the same dragging is there. i haven't tried pulling the plugs yet, because i don't have a socket, but i changed them recently. i'm thinking it's a fuel problem, but i don't know. i changed the fuel pump and filter this summer. i don't know what to look at next.

oh, the other thing i was wondering about was an exhaust clog. i'm not sure, but i think it's viable.
