Mine is vacuumed activated and I would imagine yours is to and also makes a suttle noise when I turn it off, I am assuming this is normal with some age on the truck. This is my opinion.

usually they don't "blow out" usually the core will start to leak and you will smell coolant and or have a puddle on your floor. You could buy a 5/8" connector for 99 cents and keep a a screw driver or pliers with you and you can always pull the heater hoses of the firewall and connect them together thus bypassing the core. not sure what the squeak is

The heater core doesn't have moving parts. There is an air diverting door in the plenum that re-routes the air (or a part of it) around the heater core. If it squeaks, it could be a momentary vacuum leak, or that it needs lube.
To answer your question, if the heater core blows, shut the truck down then and there. It is in circuit with (and exactly like) the radiator that cools your engine. If it leaks, you will lose coolant. If it blows, you will lose coolant very fast (think radiator hose inside the cab). That being said, heater cores will usually have a small leak long before blowing out, and you will most likely smell the leak first.

alrite thanks guys and srteach what would i need to put the lube on and what kind of lube
