Ford Ranger v6 4.0l. Heat guage runs above normal, sometimes spiking, replaced temp sensors and thermostat but to no avial, cant get engine hot enough to have thermostat opening but guage reflects above normal - why does the themostat refuse to open.

When replacing thermostats, quality control seems to have gone out the window.

Try this, before putting it into the vehicle...

Take it to the kitchen and bring a pot of water up in temp.

Borrow your wife/girlfriend's thermometer (best done without their knowledge).

Put thermostat in water and watch what temp it opens up at.

Whatever is the rating on it can be verified this way to ensure interoperability.

PS - destroy all evidence of tool usage

are you sure you changed the sensor for the temp guage? my 3.0 has two, one for the ecm and one for the temp sensor.
