heat at firewall

I've got a 96 4x4 5.0. does anyone else have a heat problem inside the cab at the firewall?

Can you be more specific as to the location of the heat?
Firewall runs from divers side to passenger side of cab, and from windshield down to the frame.

Engine metal only runs around 200degF, so hot but not all that hot.

Exhaust parts on the other hand run minimum 650degF and closer to 800-900degF

Catalytic converters get hot and get VERY HOT if engine is running Rich

Yes, the cab gets hot with nothing but rubber mats on the floor and after cruising 15-20 minutes and no, I don't have a solution. I put that foil covered insulation on the transmission tunnel--it may have helped with noise, but not heat.

A Working one that channels air to rear of engine, get some air circulation between engine/exhaust and firewall

Maybe a V8 logo on the sides of it, lol.

That's why you're feeling heat. Carpet and padding of course also insulate. You could use some sort of foam underneath the rubber.

When I first did mine I left the shifter hole in the carpet open. It was like a steam locomotive going down the highway, it was terrible. Hot air would come in around the shifters and go out the drivers side window, it was a rolling sweat box.

I bought a tan $4 rug at kmart that kinda matched the interior and it was like driving any other vehicle going down the road after that.

Pretty common problem on the older Rangers the blend door on the heater is somewhat partially open I don't know if that is one of your problems but I found it on my truck, the blend door cable is behind the glove compartment door on top of the heater.
