I wanted to replace the headliner on my Regular cab ranger. I pulled it out and started to pull off what was left of the old fabric. The headliner "board" started to tear up as well.

There is a shop in town that has the color I need out of a 1987 model. I haven't gone to look at it yet. I am wondering if this part is interchangeable between these years?

I saw where in 89 the interior was changed but I'm thinking the headliner might be the same.

Thank you.

Headliner out of a wrecker aught to be pretty damn cheap?

Or just make your own! Duct tape comes in all sorts of colors and patterns now! lol

Easiest way would seem to be to take what's left of yours and try to match it up.

If it's already gone, most likely problem areas are: Cab light, Overhead console (only if the 87 had electronic 4wd), around the edges where it meets the metal or plastic trim.

I suspect it would work pretty well though.

First gen headliners are different than second gen, they have metal (I think its metal)...trim that runs across the windshield, so you will need everything to go with the headliner, the a-pillar trim, and the trim that goes across the windshield, also check to make sure that you won't need the visors.

can you post a pic of your current healiner? Are you sure the actual board was falling apart and it wasn't just what was left of the foam? The headliner board is fiberglass, and has a few layers, if a couple layers come off its not a big deal, just try and keep it as smooth as possible so it doesn't look all funky when you glue new material to it.

Thanks for the answers guys.

Ill take the old headliner with me.

As far as my headliner falling apart, I started to pull what was left of the carpet off and the headliner started tearing off in chunks. Best way to explain is the "board" looks like layers of fiberglass insulation pressed together like plywood. Wasn't what I expected at all.

Easiest way would be to just go to a junk yard and pull a headline out of a wrecked one. Unless you have an interior color that is hard to find or something. Or you want to have something more custom.

The shop I mentioned in my first post is a junkyard. Right now its the only one I can find.

I'm not going spend 300 on a new board so if this one doesn't work out ill just cruise without one until I find one.

Twice now I've taken a headliner out, pulled the fabric and replaced it with headliner fabric from a sewing store. You could always make the headliner from fiberglass then put fabric on it.

Ya thats how they are, you can recover them as long as you dont screw it up taking the old material off, just have to be careful.

While the subject is up: How is one removed from an extended cab (or a car) without folding it?

Sliders are more of a pain but solid rear windows are super easy to pop out and walk back in with rope.

Extended cab back glass is bolted in, so slider or solid they're both easy.
