I need to remove the pull knob for the headlight switch so I can remove speedo/tach trim panel to replace burned out dash bulbs. Someone should have an easy solution. I know I have to push the release button, BUT...how do you get to it???!

Thanks
Big Mo

Turn the lights all the way on, depress the release, remove knob by gently pulling.
Yeah, it is that easy.
FYI all your lights are now on so don't waste time.

Can't you just push the button back in once you have the knob off?

It's been years since I've done it, but I thought you just used a small screwdriver from the side.

On my 88 I've found there is just enough room to pull the headlight knob out to full extension, pop the trim piece loose, swivel it aside, and then push the knob back in to turn the headlights off. This exposes the screws so you can take the bezel off.

There is a release button on the side of the switch body, and it's just barely possible to reach up there and push it if you have long fingers. If you have an extra elbow in the middle of your forearm it would even be easy. I've never popped the knob clip off with a small screwdriver; I'm concerned that such practice will reduce retention force over time as the interface wears, and I don't want the knob popping off in my hand some dark night.

thats not an issue with these knobs.

rotate the knob till you see the lil slot and use a lil flat blade to remove it.
