Last night I was trying to replace my headlight bulbs and while I was trying to pull off the clips, the top of two of them snapped off. Is there a way to take off the clips without the top parts? I have a 2000 ranger xlt.

Are you referring to the plastic round retainers that lock the bulbs into place?

These do deteriorate with time, they become brittle

they break, one gets new ones.

No. The small metal clips that hold the pins in the headlight housing

I know now what you're referring to.......the 3 C-clips at the rear of both headlamps that hold the aiming adjusters in place.
One doesn't usually pull out the entire headlamp assembly to replace the bulbs. The passenger side one removes the airbox cover to get access to the bulb retainer. The drivers side one has to remove the battery to get at the bulb. retainer.

Ah ok. I thought I had to take the housing out completely to do it.
