Headlight Chime w/ Truck Running

Recently this chimer goes off everytime I turn on my headlights 'with' the truck running. It doesn't shut off until I shut the lights off...

Seems to have started working backwards like this on me about a week ago and its driving me nuts.

Today I put in a new keyswitch hoping it would do but it didn't do anything.

Anyone have this fix or know what else to do or try?

It's a 1994 Ranger 4.0

Your Chime module has these wires:

R/Y (red wire with yellow stripe) Hot in Start or Run
R/PK 12v w/ Door ajar
BR 12v w/ Park or Headlamp On
DG/LG 12v out to light Fasten Belt Indicator
BR/LB Seat Belt Switch provides ground when NOT buckled
BK/PK Key in ignition provides ground

You'll find the Chime Module just above the center tunnel hump, under the dash.

If you are getting 12v on the BR wire when the headlamps are on (or Parking lamps), then your Chime Module may be bad.

If you are NOT getting 12v, your Main Light Switch is bad or the BR wire splice has broken. It shows that splice as being INSIDE the Main Light Switch, but it may be spliced in the connector, I can't tell which. Either way, you'll notice there are two BR wires at the Main Light Switch. One is for the chime, the other is Park Lamps power.

You could try cutting the BR wire at the Chime Module to get rid of the nuisance chime, but leave enough to splice it back.

You could disconnect the entire Chime Module and throw it away with no more noises to enjoy. (Earl's alternate method)

Re-reading your symptom...make sure you have the 12v on the R/Y wire with key in Run. May be fuse #7 blown (I'm looking at a 93 schematic, 94 may differ).

Good luck with it.

I checked into the module wires going off your post, Earl, and everything checked out okay..

Red/y wire has 12v only with key on and brown wire has 12v only when headlamps/park lights are on.. Fuse 7 looked fine, I replaced it anyways but it made no difference.

Pulled the module out for now but I'd like to keep looking into it.

Again the symptom is- chimes with truck running, when I turn the headlamps on. Doesn't chime when I forget the headlamps on, while the truck is off. This just recently started happening and I haven't changed or added/deleted anything at all to cause it.

I'd pick up another module at the JY.

One of the Ford Techs on here might be able to cross the part number for you, to get an idea what other vehicles you can take one of these out of. Probably doesn't have to be a Ranger, knowing how Ford works.
