ok guys i need help i just go new headers for my 88 ranger 2.9 and guess wat all the manifold bolts snaped:sad: wat a suprise and ideas how to get them out.:icon_idea:

how much of the bolt is sticking out? you can try to weld a nut on to it or use jb weld in a pinch. If you go with the vice grips put some candle wax on the bolt to protect the treads. Good luck

I know it sounds wierd, but if you get the engine hot, it helps with the bolt getting looser. I know metal expands, but so will whatever the bolt is in. And how much of the bolt is sticking out? You could try to weld a bolt on it like Epixstar said. I do not know how JB Weld will help. I have seen that stuff do magic, but to help turn a broken bolt. WOW. I want to see this.

How many bolts broke?

what i mean when using jb weld is just spin a nut on there and put some jb weld on the nut and the top treads its can work but if its cold out it can take around 3 days to dry.

If you have enough thread...... get two nuts twist them on (go to hardware get the really thin ones) jam them together.......... put a wrench on the bottom one and use it just like you would a bolt head.

If you don't have access to a torch or welder........ get a little propane torch, heat the base of stud....... drip candle wax around it, yes....... candle wax, it will penetrate better than wd-40 or pb blaster...... then try to remove it.

(I've never heard of using wax to protect the threads....... if they snapped, I wouldn't worry about the threads.)

If you can get a hold of a wire lead welder.... and you can only get one nut on there, just tack it on the inside to the stud, and hope for the best (after letting it at least soak a few hrs in PB blaster or Acetone and ATF mixture)

ok im just getting to the broken studs today because iv been working on my cummins. but my buddy said he has a stud extender that will get them out no problem has anyone had experience with this tool? i really hope this will work all but one stud 1 stud broke but on the positive side their all sticking out a good 1-2". if this does not work i just plan on pulling the heads or motor in a couple hrs and torching and drilling them and re threding them and all that good stuff because way easier to get to.

did you get your headers on?

I had same issue. I used some freaze off for rust and easy outs. they came right out and did not hurt the threads..

sorry yeah i got the headers on re drilled and taped them... sounds amazing

i had 5 or 6 break off of my heads, pain in the ass, i drilled them all out and i'm gonna re tap them.
