I am in the process of doing my trans, and it was a major PITA with the exhaust up, so i'm thinking about just pulling the exhaust down from the manifolds back, and well, since there gonna be out, i'm thinking about just getting some pacesetter headers, and y-pipe!

Anyone have headers on their 4.0 OHV? Do they add anything? or waste of money?

They arent quite wasted money, depending on your plans. If you plan to go all out and port the heads and intakes, add a cam, ditch the cats and open your exhaust to fully breathe better they will work in conjunction with other mods very well.

Headers by themselves, are a waste, except for the slight change in tone you will recieve.

I had intake and headers as well as offroad h-pipe with my 3.8l and flowmasters. I was very impressed, I liked the sound, I lost some seat of the pants HP, however in reality I was mildly faster than stock, according to the clock.

As restrictive as cast iron manifolds are I can't imagine
why anyone thinks they can hurt.

Granted they aren't going to make a huge difference but

I have Borla's on my '93 4.0 engine, but since I never ran a 4.0
engine in my truck without the headers....

I swapped the headers on while the engine was still on the engine
stand before I even swapped it in to my truck (originally a 2.9)
so I have no fair basis for comparison.

You mean use a high flow cat right? :icon_twisted: Wouldn't wanna break any rules lol

i threw some headers on when redoing my motor. more or less stock 4.0, headers, into a stock exhaust. i would really honestly say i cant tell a difference. my butt dyno tells me that it is a little more smooth when getting on it from a dead stop, but its not like i can tell a real difference in acceleration. it sounds pretty damned cool, and looks kind of neat, but the real reason i put them in was because my stock exhaust was shot and leaking.

like said previously the will compliment other mods but by themselves will do relatively little.

I would say that's backwards OTHER mods combined will do little unless you give the exhaust somewhere to go...

And what some people consider "mods" pushes my
hysterical laughter button.

The one thing I do notice with my 4.0 on headers, is that of all the 4.0 trucks I've driven mine doesn't seem to "go flat" until it actually hits the rev limiter.
