HEADERS - Which way to go? 87 2.9L ranger 4x4

87 2.9L - not 97 (my bad) I heard JBA is the best but I was having a tough time finding them online and the set I did find was $800+. Is that really what I can expect to pay for a good set of headers? Any other brands out there? apparently theres more work involved with buying pacesetters (O2 sensor, bolt pattern). Advice/experience is appreciated, thanks

The problem is that you are working on an 87. There are few header choices for the 86/87 2.9 because those two years had EGR and a different bolt pattern at the cat than the 89-92 years.

I'm also not a fan of the way the PaceSetters attach to the Y-pipe. It's a slip-over joint and I had quite a time getting my Y-pipe in and out.

Well Pat Kunz says JBA is the way to go so I phoned them up down in California and since my 87 is a manual trans, they do make them for my truck. SS and SS w/ ceramic coating. Part # 1632S-1 for SS and 1632S-1JS for SS w/ ceramic. Dustin from JBA ensures these are made for my 87 and they look like they'll do the trick, but what is the problem with the EGR I could face? These JBA's are $800 CND, $575 USD. Hurts the piggy bank eh. See the link below. These come with all gaskets and they're Ball and socket joints, also come with bung for O2 sensor.

Ok so I confirmed that the part number for 86-87 is actually "1630S" and JBA hasn't produced them in 5 years. JBA rep was very skeptical that anyone would have them on the shelf so the hunt begins I guess. If anybody knows of another supplier, please share. I will let you know if I can find. ALSO, the 1630S is equiped for the EGR. If I can't find a set, how hard is it to remove the EGR completely? No where in Canada requires testing for years before 88.

Swap pcm with one from an 88 to 92 2.9 manual trans and yank all the egr stuff off. If you are pulling it out of a truck at a junkyard make sure to grab the egr blockoff plate too
