I have a aftermarket head unit in the 1994 Ford Ranger I bought not to long ago. But I think it's time for a new one. Does anyone have any opinions on what to buy. I am looking to spend about 200 bucks. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Check out www.crutchfield.com. They will allow you to outfit your vehicle and see what fits. They also have a lot of good prices on their units.

Are there any things you need to have?

i have had major problems with the pioneer premier HU's, i had a really old pioneer that woked exceptional then i upgraded to new pioneer premeir models and replaced 8 faulty units... went with an alpine and never looked back, i think my HU was 260 before price droped but all the alpines above mid grade are good. =]

x2, theres lots of cheaper Headunits, do you have a EQ preference? Have an Ipod or MP3 player you like to use? Planning on running any external amps for subs or door speakers? Bluetooth? you might not be able to find everything you want in the $200 range but you should be able to find most of the features you want.

Pioneers are great for the money but they have a fair amount of problems too.
i have a 8600mp but sometimes you have to fiddle with the face for it to turn on and sometimes it wont open the face.

start on Sonicelectronix.com, they have the best prices and the best selections in my opinion.

Kenwood makes some very decent headunits for the price, well worth checking them out.

Alpine, Pioneer, and Eclipse are my favorites but eclipses tend to get pretty spendy.

This one is 239 but has alot of great features:http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_11842_Eclipse+CD3200.html#

My bf bought a Pioneer over the summer and the volume knob is already broken, you can always use the remote but it still kinda sucks.

I bought a Kenwood KDC-X693 a few weeks ago. I don't know much about car audio or had it very long, but I like it so far. I mostly picked it because you can choose the backlight color (I know, lame reason right?) I wanted green but they all aftermarkets seem to be BLUE now for some reason, ick. Reviews said it wasn't user friendly, it's not very confusing once you play with it for 10 minutes and sounds great on my crappy stock speakers.

Srry guys I haven't been on here in awhile, but today I stopped at a couple places and they both preferred kenwood. Have any of you guys ever had any experience with them. I don't need usb input just aux

I have a valor in my truck. 7" screen, all the inputs for anything and everything. Had it for about 2 years now and its still flawless. It was about 250.

Kenwood is a good brand, I have a big stereo in my room. It's a Kenny and it is great.
