So yesterday, I decided to try the dual ignition mod on my truck. Figured I would record it, so I could go back and look at the differences, as well as share them with my fellow Rangers!

So here it is...

The ONLY THING, I THINK it POSSIBLY does, is improve your high end revs, according to the videos and having several people watch them. Does it? Maybe not. I not have a dyno in my garage! Lol...

These two runs were done within 20 mins of each other (I drive my truck like a racecar EVERYWHERE! LOL!), so there is no difference in the truck EXCEPT a little less gas and the said mod that were testing...

Truck is bone stock, other than a relocated MAF sensor, a "homemade" ram air intake, the gas pedal "zip tie mod" (took about 7 of em! Lol), and a MASSIVE catalytic converter that someone welded in where the MUFFLER IS SUPPOSED TO GO! Here in VA, no need for mufflers, as long as you have a cat! So its manifold, then a pipe all the way back before the axle, a cat, which is dumped, before the rear axle. I've already got a high flow cat, a flowmaster 40 and all the piping (including a tip) that will come out right before the rear axle!

ANYWAYS, ON TO THE VIDEO TEST! TELL ME WHAT Y'ALL THINK!

UP FIRST IS NON-MODDED:

AND HERE IT IS WITH THE "COIL PACK MOD", AGAIN, ABOUT 20 MINS LATER (PS: Sorry for my finger all up in your FACE! HA!)

So.... There it is, for anyone wanting to try it!

Looks to be slower after the mod, I personally did it to mine about a year ago and saw no difference. I changed it back three days later :)

I'm starting to come to that conclusion... KIND OF!

It atleast had more down low power! (Which is what I'M looking for!)

But my final motor, I'd like it to be high compression and high revving... So maybe that's why I want to lean in the "it helps" direction?

I need a TuneUp, after I do one, I'll reset everything and do before and afters .... See if it makes ANY difference! :icon_thumby:

It Seemed To Be Helpfu On Hills When I Did My 98

The word "psychosomatic" comes to mind every time this mod comes up.

Had to look up that word. It meant what I thought it did. I now agree.

Theoretically if one coil pack was dead, and you only fired on the exhaust side the engine would run "slower". Then if you swapped so that the intake side of plugs fired, it would be theoretically faster. Theoretically.

However, opposite-side plugs fire just fine on other engines so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

colliding flame fronts in the combuston camber is nothing new, but will not give you any more power with out the proper combustion chamber shape, usually a hemispherical shape is best so the flame fronts dont collide but blends, and are more made so that the plugs are about 30-40 degrees apart, and with todays gas running a higher octane will do more than the twin plug conversion on the 2.3L

Agreed....

Just thought I would post this up for people to gaze at...since it was LITERALLY a side by side comparison, on the IDENTICAL truck, nothing else messed with.

You can tell there's a difference in the video(s), I'm just not really sure I've pinpointed THAT difference though! lol :icon_rofl:
