Ok, second post, hopefully can get some help. I have a 91 ranger 8 plug 2.3. i also have a 89 mustang 4 plug 2.3. Both are 5 speed with EFI. I want to take the head and EFI setup off the mustang and put it on the Ranger. My questions are...

1. What does this consist of as far as wiring goes?
2. Is this practical?
4. Can i leave the DIS system, or do I have to add a distibutor and add a coil?
If so can someone help with a wiring diagram of what it would take to accomplish this.

I really need this truck and I cant find an 8 plug head. This is the reasoning for my swap. I have a new head and intake off of my mustang, so I have a good setup I just need the technical info to accomplish this. Any help will be very appreciated. :dunno:

bolt it up and unplug the coil pack ur not using. Maybe scott will chime in, he did something so he wouldn't get a CEL using just one coil pack but i dont remember what. you shouldn't have to rewire anything though. i'm pretty sure it's just a bolt in and go job.

also one coil pack dosen't fire while cranking, don't remember which one, just be sure to use the one that does fire. =]

here's some reading. http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/4cylinders.html

Thanks for the input guys. Im located in N.C. by the way.

the 95 and 97 heads are different from pre 95 ones. be a pain to get them to work..

yeah, keep the DIS just cut off the connector a couple inches back, splice the two green wires together and go to ground, but before you try that, leave the drivers side coil in place, if you have a tach it might work that way. if it doesn't start (mine did that) cut off the connector and splice those two wires to ground or cut the spark plug wires and ground those, that's the next thing I'm going to try, as I would really like my tach back...

on that note, use your stock fuel injectors and fuel rail, I think theyll fit on the older intake manifold, the fuel lines going to your rail now are probably a lot different than the stang setup. that and you will want to install your stock throttle body, it'll save you some wiring...

Thanks for the feedback guys. Im going to try it as soon as our weather clears up. Were under a foot of snow and possibly looking at some more so yea.... Lol. But i do appreciate the feedback and will post status soon.

What part of NC you live, if it's close to the TN line, go to the Pull-a-Parts in Knoxville, they have a 93 engine I was going to pull for my truck, and it still runs, I asked if I could take a battery and see if it would fire, and it tryed, but no gas sence they took the tank out, but a little starting fluid and it ran a little and sounded good.
