I have a friend that needs new heeadgaskets on his 4.0, I have never really delt with v-6's before. Is it as easy as take off heads and replace the gasket and bolt back together? I have a 2.3 and i put a new head on it, and it was pretty simple, it a v-6 the same just do the process twice?

I just replaced a cracked head. On my 2000 4.0, Its a easy job but....... you have to dismantle the entire engine bay for the most part just to get at them. It took me a day to take apart / and a day to assemble. Its very Straight forward, but if you dont know that engine compartment that well you better take notes on what you removed and what order you did it in. I follwed what my haynes book said. To answer you question yes its simple if you know the engine, and yes a head gasket install is pretty well the same shit for any typical automotive engine (USE NEW HEAD BOLTS THEY YEILD TO TORQUE AND CAN ONLY BE USED ONCE RELIEABLY)

I knew about the bolts, same deal with mine the only big difference i know is that mine has a timing belt and the 4.0 uses a chain right?

have the heads checked out 85% of the time there cracked even if they show no signs. If there cracked you want to buy NEW heads from, someone like kingcylinderhead.com. Also new rocker shafts and pushrods would be great

the OHV 4.0L is a old style push rod engine, so there is nothing to do with the chain to get to the heads: even simpler. The newer 4.0L SOHC engine has the chains up to the heads.

:agree: wont have to touch chain at that point.
