I have a 1994 ford ranger 3.0L and am replacing the head gaskets. What is the proper torque for the head bolts. I have seen different values and not sure which one to use. :icon_confused:

  1. Carefully position cylinder heads on cylinder block .

  1. Install new cylinder head retaining bolts and hand tighten.

  1. Tighten retaining bolts in sequence as illustrated to 80 Nm (59 ft-lb).

  1. Back off all bolts a minimum of one full turn (360 degrees). NOTE: When the cylinder head retaining bolts have been tightened using this procedure, it is not necessary to retighten the bolts after extended engine operation. However, the bolts can be checked for tightness if desired.

  1. Re-tighten the cylinder head retaining bolts in sequence in two tightening steps as follows:
    • 50 Nm (37 ft-lb)
    • 92 Nm (68 ft-lb)
