That's pretty good. Though I do love harbor freight... mostly because I use alot of tarps and they give them away for free. I must have 50 tarps from them and only ever spent about 6 bucks in the store. :icon_rofl:

I buy stuff there to. However not anything that could possibly kill me if it fails.

I bought a few tools to put on my quad and a tow strap for the quad. The little all in one set of allen heads i bought literally came apart just from bounceing in the tool box, and the tow strap broke after the first use. So eh.

I also bought a fuel pressure tester there, it leaks like crazy and has no relief valve, and the glass cracked already. Lol. The vaccuum gauge is good though.

Oh and dont even get me started on the torque wrench i bought.

What happened with the torque wrench? I've been using theirs for years.

Grossly inaccurate.

Torqued the front hubs on my quad, which have to be dead on in order for the 4wd to work. 4wd still didnt work so i hauled it to the shop at work and evendently 12ftlbs to harbor freight is only 7ftlbs to snap on.

2nd time i used it, other time was to torque headbolts on a 48 Farmall cub after i changed the head gasket. It hasnt blown up yet so maybe its accurate up higher in the range? I dont know.

That's awesome. The moron light is my favorite.

I don't buy much from there. Quality has gone up a little but not much and I'm just disappointed with their tools most of the time. Worst one yet was one of those Earthquake XT impacts - 1/2" model is supposed to be rated at like 1200ft/lbs but I'd be shocked if mine makes 300ft/lbs. In fact the 3/8 drive Earthquake impact I have makes a LOT more power than it does. It's pathetic.

Drives me nuts that they have like 6 brands of cordless power tools and at least 3 brands of welders now. Probably all crap too. If they could just build one or two good tool lines and like one budget one, I'd think they would develop a better reputation - and it's weird that they're trying to pass them off as alternatives to better quality brands now too. I think it will backfire in the long run once people realize that they are still just selling the same old crap.

For the most part I avoid their power tools, hand tools seem ok.

I did pick up a 3" electric cutoff wheel the other day for trimming my floor pan though.

My dad loves all the goofy solar lights they sell. I have no clue why, everytime I'm at his house he's got a bunch of broken ones taken apart on his workbench. Maybe he just likes the challenge :icon_confused:

Most torque wrenches are most accurate in the middle of their range, especially analog ones. Higher end ones will be better at the ends. Most digital ones are pretty good through the whole range.

I have a Brownline that I bought a few years ago, and I have been very happy with it.

Also, have you guys seen this one:

HF is usefull if you're careful. I have their porta-band and it seems good enough for home use. Their 20ton hydraulic press is a work horse for me. I get various other things there when I have the right coupons and don't need high quality. I was going to buy a roll-around toolbox there today. But found a Craftsman box, roughly the same size at Lowe's for $20 less than the HF sale price. That shocked me. Also got another 10% off with my "my Lowe's card "/ military discount.

BTW, love the Hazard Fraught ad.

Love my 20T press.

If you want a nice upgrade to it, throw one of these in place of the original jack.

I've used them for things like jackstands and a paint gun.

When a Harbor Fright opened in our area my son and I drove down for a look. I have Snap On tools boxes full of Snap on, Mac, Matco, SK, some Cornwell, and generally decent quality stuff that we both use. After walking around in HF for a while my son said "this is a tool store for people who don't use tools". There probably are some items there that would be worth having but I didn't see any. My torque wrench cost $120 from Mac- in 1975 when gas was $.50 or so, a new Pinto cold be had for $3000, and I was a dealer tech making about $3.50 and hour. I've checked it against recent Snap On wrenches my former techs owned and it's still reliable, I just couldn't trust a $20 torque wrench.

There's definitely a mix of junk there. One thing I appreciate is that they don't filter their reviews at all. Their ultrasonic cleaner (at least the one I bought in 2010) has been a workhorse. The smaller engine hoist is passable for working on a smaller car, but a pain in the #@$@#% pulling a V8 out of a Ranger because it doesn't go high enough to work well in a small engine compartment.

I couldn't bring myself to trust their torque wrench, I have yet to break anything from them though.

I have gone around with dad on this... working on your own crap doesn't pay for Snap-On tools. And on the flipside when you are not working on other people's stuff all day you don't break stuff like you do as a weekend warrior.

+1 to fastpakr on the ultrasonic cleaner. I have the little one for gun parts and it is sweet. I just use hot water and dump all the nipples and small parts in there and keep running it as I clean the barrel and cylinder on my black powder pistols, works great.

I used a $14 set of combination wrenches from HF when I did my V8 swap to see if they were very good... did not miss a beat. My impact sockets are from them and several pullers, the balljoint c clamp tool has been a trooper.
